Legacy & Vision
Samyang Legacy
Two enduring principles have guided Samyang from its inception
01
Food Sufficiency Leads to World Peace (食足平天)
"Having enough to eat ensures peace throughout the world."
In the aftermath of the Korean War, the land was left in ruins, subjecting many citizens to the ordeal of food scarcity.
Our founder, the late Honorary Chairman Chun Joong-yoon, opted to abandon his insurance venture to focus on alleviating this national crisis. Guided by the philosophy that 'food sufficiency leads to world peace,' he devoted himself to the ramen business.
As a result, in September 1963, Samyang introduced Korea's first-ever ramen, 'Samyang Ramen,' delivering much-needed sustenance to those who had been enduring extreme hunger.
02
Live for a Century, Plan for a Millennium (人間百懷千歲憂)
"Although human beings may live for a century, they should plan for a millennium."
Ramen had alleviated immediate hunger among the population, but our late Honorary Chairman Chun Joong-yoon took on another challenge to consistently provide higher-quality nutrition to the people.
Motivated by the philosophy 'Live for a Century, Plan for a Millennium,' his unwavering resolve to establish a lasting source of protein came to fruition through the development of 'Samyang Farm,' Asia's largest natural grassland Farm, spanning 6 million pyeong. The Farm was cultivated over a decade from the untouched forests of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range.
In line with the motto 'Igeon (以建),' which means 'to surely achieve what one aims for,' this enduring, visionary spirit serves as the driving force for Samyang Roundsquare today.
Our Vision
A Company That Serves Enriching Lives and the Future
Food for Thought
From Korea's first-ever ramen, first black bean sauce ramen, to its first cup ramen, all originating from Samyang... Samyang's innovative thinking and creativity have not only broadened the culinary landscape but also provided compelling new narratives to the world.
Six decades later, the new food culture that Samyang has created, symbolized by phenomena like the Fire Noodle Challenge, which has now become an icon of K-Spicy, is evolving into a culinary experience that emotionally resonates with people around the globe.
Adapting to the shifts and demands of changing times, Samyang Roundsquare continues to present new values in the world of food.
Going forward, we aim to become 'Food for Thought,' nourishing both body and spirit for a richer future. Whether offering comfort and joy, igniting diverse and fresh inspiration, or laying the groundwork for societal change, we are committed to enriching lives and paving the way for a prosperous future.
Our aspiration is for Samyang Roundsquare to be a company that nourishes people and the world towards better health. This is the vision that Samyang Roundsquare strives for.
Brand Slogan
Breaking the Impossible Rule
Square the Circle
One of the three ancient geometric puzzles, "Draw a square with the same area as a given circle (Square the Circle)"
Leonardo da Vinci provided a new solution to this impossible problem by applying the idea of the golden ratio to his 'Vitruvian Man,' a study of the geometric proportions of the human body.
Like Renaissance scientists who aimed to solve problems through a shift in perspective, Samyang Roundsquare will create innovative solutions that surpass the impossible through various attempts and daring challenges in the future.
We will continue to unlock new possibilities by tirelessly breaking the rules of the impossible.
